2016 US Open Winner

Dustin Johnson wins his first major championship. Johnson birdied the par-4 18th hole to ice it, and after the round he was given a one-stroke penalty for his ball having moved as he addressed it on the fifth green. The penalty stroke, while controversial, was a moot point as Johnson's 69 and his four-under total was still good for a three-shot win.

2015 US Open Winner

With his victory in the U.S. Open on Sunday, his second major in a row, 21-year-old Jordan Spieth became the youngest winner of the national championship since Bobby Jones in 1923.

2014 US Open Winner

Martin Kaymer shot a 1-under 69 and was aggressively smart all day on Sunday. Kaymer's winning margin of eight over runners-up Rickie Fowler and Erik Compton has been bested only by Woods (2000, 15 strokes) and Willie Smith (1899, 9 strokes).

2013 US Open Winner

Justin Rose wins 2013 US Open. Rose was drilling his approach stone dead at the 12 for a tap-in birdie, and sinking another at the shot 13. He would drop shots at 14 and 15 coming in but simply stunning tee shots at 17 and 18.

McIlroy dug his approach shot on No. 1 out of a divot to 6 feet for a birdie Sunday. McIlroy shot a 2-under 69 to close the four days at Congressional at 16-under 268, shattering a U.S. Open scoring records.

McDowell got into the U.S. Open by narrowly getting into the top 50 in the world at the deadline to avoid qualifying. He wound up with his first victory in America to go along with five European Tour victories, most recently the Wales Open last month at the home course for the Ryder Cup in October. He is sure to be part of the European team now, moving up to No. 13 in the world.

Lucas Glover won the 2009 U.S. Open at the Bethpage Black Course (Farmingdale, New York) by two strokes over Phil Mickelson, Ricky Barnes, and David Duval. He was a surprise winner of the event, being ranked 71st in the Official World Golf Ranking and never having made a cut in his three previous U.S. Open appearances. He shot a second round 64, tying the low round of the week with Mike Weir. After sinking a 3 foot putt for par on 18, Glover won by a margin of two strokes. The win propelled him to 18th in the world rankings.

After playing to a tie through 90 holes in the U.S. Open, Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate marched to the seventh tee at Torrey Pines on Monday afternoon for a sudden-death playoff.

Tiger Woods held up his third U.S. Open championship trophy after defeating Rocco Mediate (just left of Woods) in a 19-hole playoff Monday at Torrey Pines Golf Course. Woods needed to birdie the 18th hole to force an extra hole, then won the title with a par.

Winner shoots a 69 in final round and withstands challenges from Woods, Furyk. Angel Cabrera makes a par putt on 18 to become the leader after 4 days of battling fierce competition. His lead held up despite a late charge by Tiger Woods.

Cabrera's final-round 69 was good enough to hold off World No. 1 Tiger Woods and No. 3-ranked Jim Furyk.

Ogilvy closed out a brutal four days with a 2-over-par 72 and finished at 5-over-par 285.

Winged Foot lived up to its reputation as a fierce test, as Ogilvy finished at 5-over par. Ogilvy, 29, becomes the first Australian to win the U.S. Open in 25 years, and the first Australian to win a major since 1995.

Geoff Ogilvy fought for four rounds, then watched Phil Mickelson double bogey the 18th hole, handing Ogilvy the 2006 U.S. Open title.

South Africa’s Retief Goosen held his nerve to clinch the US Open for a second time, edging out Phil Mickelson by two shots with a closing one-over-par 71 on the last day of the US open.
